On a tiny island off the coast of Maine there exists a little red house. In this house, time has stood still. If you are ever blessed enough to enter the door, you are soon greeted by a strange sound. It will take some time - but you'll begin to realize that the rhythmic sounds you hear are simply the breaths you take. The silence is at first overwhelming but is soon followed by an immense sense of relaxation. Like a warm blanket, on a cold winter night, this tiny red house will love and protect you.
Back in 2000, for what seems a minute in time, I was blessed to share this sanctuary with one of the most amazing people I've ever meet. Together we filled the house with laughter and the smells of fresh cooked lasagna. We spent evening on the porch, where sunset warmed our Merlot. On rainy days we sat inside, peering out the antique wavy glass simply looking at the cold gray ocean or reading a vast majority of dusty old books that had long since been abandoned on an aged bookshelf.
We were young and curious and both possessed the soles of adventurers...so as life had it, after graduation we both wondered away from our home.. Heidi moved to Colorado and began her nursing career, I on the other hand, sold everything I owned and hitchhiked out of town.
Years latter, I would meet Heidi back in Maine, we took a ferry out to the island as to visit our old home. In revisiting the past, we took this picture just outside of our former place. If you look closely, you'll see our little red house in the top right corner. The driftwood picture frame, is a gift I made for Heidi, the driftwood - from the beach were we were standing.
