इटली की प्रधानमंत्री जॉर्जिया मेलोनी ने अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप की धमकी का कड़ा विरोध किया, जिसमें उन्होंने ग्रीनलैंड की सुरक्षा में योगदान देने वाले यूरोपीय देशों पर शुल्क लगाने की बात कही थी। मेलोनी ने इसे “गलती” बताया और चेतावनी दी कि सहयोगियों को सैनिक योगदान के लिए दंडित करना ट्रांस-अटलांटिक संबंधों पर दबाव डाल सकता है। दक्षिण कोरिया यात्रा के दौरान उन्होंने ट्रंप से सीधे अपनी चिंताएँ साझा कीं और स्पष्ट किया कि यूरोप का समर्थन अमेरिका-विरोधी नहीं है। ट्रंप ने आठ यूरोपीय देशों के सामान पर 10 प्रतिशत आयात कर की घोषणा की थी, जो बढ़कर 25 प्रतिशत भी हो सकता है।
