A surprise aurora event reached G3 geomagnetic storm levels on Sunday, Sept. 14 that had pink pillars reaching for the stars. I was able to shoot two dramatic timeslapses as substorms threw the aurora high into the sky.
Perhaps the favorite thing about this aurora chase was the constant stream of whipsy clouds that drifted in front of of the aurora, creating an almost 3D effect on the images.
