Prof Jeremy Russell-Smith and Darwin Centre for Bushfire Research (DCBR) team members Jay Evans, Dr Sofia Oliveira, Dr Cameron Yates, Hafsa Nipa, Dr Andrew Edwards, Assoc Prof Kamaljit Sangha, and Dr Hari Paramjyoti presented the seminar ‘Improved fire management and ecosystem services’ on 7 November 2025 in Darwin, Australia.
Jeremy has led the Bushfire Research team since 1997, first as part of Bushfires NT and then after its move to Charles Darwin University in 2013. The DCBR’s research is based on the connection between extensive field data describing the impacts of fire on north Australian vegetation, and remotely sensed mapping of fire and habitats, which has led to useful tools for land managers across northern Australia.
In this seminar, Jeremy outlines some of the key parts of this work, before introducing DCBR team members who speak in more detail about their research.
The RIEL Seminar Series presents research findings and updates on environmental sciences on a regular basis from March to November. Find out more about our upcoming seminars at https://www.cdu.edu.au/riel/seminars.
