Firefighters depend on their gear to perform when every second counts. Two University of Kentucky alumni, Andrea Boylin and Tricia Hock, are leading the way at LION—the nation’s largest provider of fire training equipment—by advancing turnout gear and safety services that protect firefighters in Kentucky and across the country.
As graduates of the Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles program in the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Boylin and Hock applied classroom knowledge and research experience in UK’s Textiles Testing Lab to real-world solutions. Their work has led to safer, more functional gear and innovative TotalCare® services that keep equipment clean, inspected and ready for service.
This story shows how UK graduates are improving lives, strengthening communities and building on Kentucky’s proud tradition of innovation in safety and service.
