After devastating landslides struck West Pokot in 2019, hope could have been lost but instead, it was reborn through community leadership.
This video tells the powerful stories of ordinary individuals who stepped up to restore water, protect the environment, and build lasting resilience in their villages.
From Yaralima Domokwang, who used his own savings to construct a life-saving water furrow, to other local heroes championing tree nurseries, soil conservation, and early warning preparedness, these initiatives are shining examples of the Survivor and Community-Led Response (Sclr) approach.
With support from the Pokot Women Empowerment Organisation (POWEO) and funding from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP), communities have led the design and implementation of projects that:
Restore and conserve water sources
Establish tree nurseries for landslide prevention
Improve food security through climate-smart agriculture
Strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience
This is a story of grassroots power—how local action can lead to long-term transformation.
Watch how West Pokot communities are building resilience from the ground up.
