Hiking Kuwohi (Clingmans Dome) Road - Snow edition - GSMNP

This is a 16 mile hike beginning at newfound gap parking lot or by parking near the gate to Clingmans Dome/Kuwohi road. It’s about 7.5 miles up the road to the parking lot, then another 0.5 mile to the tower on the summit of Kuwohi. This hike must be done between November-March while the road is closed for the season. I prefer to do this hike a day or two after a good snow once hwy 441 has reopened.
I jumped on the AT at the Fork Ridge Junction so I could summit MT Collins (6127’) as part of the south beyond 6k challenge.
Kuwohi (6643’) was the second summit of the day completed for the challenge.
The ice wall is roughly 6 miles up the road, right before the Noland divide trailhead.
There are many partial views from the road along the hike, especially as you get past the halfway point at Mt Collins.
