Tesla Model Y & Model 3 - The BEST & Only HUD Display To Consider - Here's Why...

If you have a Tesla Model Y or Model 3 and have always wanted a HUD (heads up display), then this is the only one to consider. Due to some uncomfortable drawbacks, screens and displays in front of the steering wheel in our Model Y have not gone over very well, until now.

This screen has a number of features that are really nice, and even while installing, an update was released that added functionality to the unit. After install, the latest version added the ability to precondition the battery manually, open all 3 passenger doors, and move the passenger seat forward and back.

The unit has the ability to display 5 different screens with different levels of information available. Whether you want simple, sporty or even detailed, there are several options to chose from. With the autopilot features displayed, there are also some new features you will notice, including blind spot monitor.

In an upcoming release, the screen will also be able to dismiss the hands on steering wheel nag that you get after a period of time not touching the wheel. After providing some feedback on additional options, it sounds like there will continue to be more and more features available with this unit from Teslasy.

The biggest issue with a display in front of the steering wheel in our Model Y, which is the same issue in a Model 3, is that it restricts the air flow. In the other 4 or 5 units I have tested over the last couple years, none of them allowed enough air through to retain the comfort of the air flow that works so well in our Tesla.

This screen has a couple things that help to solve the issue. First, the screen is mounted to an elevated bracket, leaving a gap at the bottom. In addition, it is shaped to give additional room for air flow around the top edges. It is also slightly narrower than other screens of the same rated size, all of which help to retain air flow from the air conditioner.

That all said, there is less air flow when this is installed, which is obvious once you place something in front of the vent. This unit though, when air is properly adjusted, allows the air vents to still hit you. You need to direct the air down and to the sides a bit and you will feel the air coming to you. When there is no passenger in the car with you, turning on the passenger vent and directing it towards you is also a good way to improve circulation.

It is because of the ability to still feel some air flow that makes this 9.6" display stand out from the rest, and is the only display I have actually enjoyed having installed. With an easy 30 minute installation, and continuous updates and improvements, this is a no brainer if you are wishing you had a HUD in your Tesla Model Y or Model 3.
