Léon de Saint-Lubin , - Violinist and composer of a French family, born in Turin on 8 July 1805, died in Berlin on 13 February 1850. He gave his first concerts in 1817 in Hamburg, where his family moved when he was still a child. In Dresden he received some lessons from
Giovanni Battista Polledro, and for about a year he was a pupil of Louis Spohr in Kassel. He then studied composition in Vienna, where in 1823 he obtained the post of first violin in the Theater in der Josefstadt, and the following year he was appointed assistant conductor. After hearing Paganini, he retired to Hungary to perfect himself.
From 1830 until his death he lived in Berlin as Konzertmeister of the Königstadt theater.
He is the author of 5 Concertos for violin and orchestra, 19 Quartets, 1 Octet, as well as other chamber music, and 6 Capricci for solo violin. He also wrote some plays (Belisario, König Branors Schwert , Doctor Faust's cousin), ballets and pantomimes.
