The wonderful Australian soprano, Marilyn Richardson, is captured here in as Antonia in Offenbach's LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN with Raymond Myers as Miracle and Margreta Elkins as the Voice of Antonia's Mother - in live performance of the opera at the Sydney Opera House in 1977 - conducted by William Reid. Marilyn Richardson was born in Sydney and studied singing and piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, graduating with a Diploma in Singing. A Churchill Fellowship enabled her to study in Europe from 1971- where she made her international debut in Basel the following year singing Lulu and Salome to rave reviews. Her performing repertoire in recital, concert and opera, covers the entire spectrum of vocal writing. She performed Chopin songs in Polish, Bartok in Hungarian, Magabunda by the American composer Schwantner and the popular Gorecki Symphony No 3 for the Adelaide and Melbourne Festivals. Added to that, she has been a fierce advocate for Australian composers. Her operatic repertoire ranged from the Baroque to contemporary in a career which lasted almost four decades. In June she made her debut in a play at the Sydney Theatre Company aged 87.
