Victorian London Street Life: Rare 1877 Collection / HD Colorized Photographs

A rare & striking collection of 1877 London street photographs by pioneering Scottish photographer John Thomson captures the daily lives of the city's working class. His ground-breaking work, Street Life in London, offers an unfiltered glimpse into the streets, markets, and back alleys of Victorian London. These rare images document the struggles of costermongers, flower sellers, bootblacks, beggars, and street performers who lived and worked in the city. At a time of widespread poverty, Thomson’s photographs preserve the lives of the forgotten, giving a face to those often ignored by society. Unlike staged Victorian portraits, his work was documentary in nature, shedding light on a side of London rarely seen in high society images. These photographs remain an invaluable historical record of survival and hardship in the late 19th century.
