You see the term "SSL Certificate" everywhere, but did you know that SSL is actually dead?
In this video, I explain the confusing relationship between SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and TLS (Transport Layer Security).
The History: SSL was the original security protocol (born in the 90s).
The Problem: SSL had security holes that hackers could easily exploit.
The Solution: TLS replaced it. It is faster, more secure, and is what we actually use today.
The Confusion: I explain why companies still sell "SSL Certificates" even though they are technically "TLS Certificates" (it is just a marketing term!).
Think of SSL as a VHS tape and TLS as 4K Streaming. They both do the same job (show a movie/encrypt data), but one is outdated technology.
