Big Reveal: 10 Worst Zoos for Elephants 2024

A special presentation about our 2024 10 Worst Zoos for Elephants where we highlight the tragic lives of older elephants. Our Elephant Consultant Courtney Scott explains how we determined which zoos made our list and the many problems that plague these elderly elephants, who are confined for life with no hope of freedom. For zoos, these old elephants are no longer useful for breeding. They are a drain on resources due to their many diseases and conditions all brought on by their years of incarceration in a zoo. Yet zoos still hold on to these forlorn elephants, refusing to release them to a reputable sanctuary. A few fortunate elephants have been retired to sanctuary, and 38 zoos have closed their elephant exhibits. We celebrate this progress and fight on to free these old and mostly forgotten elephants to a true elephant retirement home before they die. Watch to learn more about these sad souls who have endured so much in their years in zoos, and deserve their chance at a happy ever after in sanctuary.
