How will an integrated Public Transport Network create a city for people ?

Auckland aspires to be the world’s most liveable city. The transformation of Auckland's currently rather complex public transport system is a key plank in Auckland Transport's plans for delivering this vision. Within the next three years, Aucklanders will be able to travel on a much more connected public transport network, combining brand new electric trains with more frequent bus service, integrated ticketing and fares, and enhanced customer experience.

While rail will have a stronger role in the new public transport network, buses - as is the case in similar cities overseas - will still carry the bulk of the patronage and play a crucial supporting role. The new public transport network will deliver significantly improved mobility and accessibility, thereby enhancing the liveability of the places that make Auckland special even as the city grows.

In his talk Jarrett draws on a number of international examples of cities comparable to Auckland where public transport has successfully balanced place and movement. He distills key lessons from their experience that Auckland can learn from in order to become the world’s most liveable city.
