Ossabaw Island Tabby Cabins - 3D Flythrough Tour

In this installment of 3D models for NCPTT's Slave Cabin and Tenant Farming Houses Project, we visit three tabby slave cabins at Ossabaw island in Georgia.

South of Savannah, Georgia, only accessible by boat, lies Ossabaw Island. The northern portion of the island was purchase around 1760 by English merchant John Morel who purchased the second half three years later. Morel’s plantation used slave labor for live-oak timber cutting operations. After his death in 1777, the island was divided into four sections and Morel’s family retained ownership of the northern portion of the island. The island holds four the last surviving structures of his North End Plantation; three tabby slave cabins and one tabby smokehouse. Archaeological research suggests that the slave cabins were constructed between the 1820s and 1830s.

NCPTT laser scanned this building using the Leica Geosystems RTC360 Laser Scanner to produce this video 3D flythrough model of the building's digital point cloud.
