HISTORY OF ASOKORE
Asokore Paramountcy is about 40 kilometres from Kumasi, the capital of the Asante Kingdom adjacent Effiduase. Asokore can located in Sekyere East district in the Ashanti region. Asokorehene swears an oath of allegiance to the Asantehene using the Mponponsuo state sword. Asokore belongs to the Ananta division of the King.
The Asokore stool is known as Sefa Atweneboa stool and it belongs to the ɛkoↄna matriclan. The ɛkoↄna clan of Asokore is made up of four ɛkoↄna groups namely Agyaben, Nsuase, Akwamaso and Etia. According to oral tradition, the four groups migrated from different places within the country. Example, Denkyira, Akuapem and Assin. They all came to settle at Asokore Mampong a suburb of Kumasi during the reign of Kwamanhene Nana Obiri Yeboah. After settling in kwaman now Kumasi for years, they were led by their first chief, Sefa Atweneboa to Asokore kese.
Nana Sefa Atweneboa (1660-1695), the first chief of Asokore was succeeded by Nana Boakye Darkwa (1696-1730) during the reign of Asantehene Osei Tutu I (1697-1717). Nana Boakye Dankwa took part in the second Dↄmaa in which the Dↄmaa people were defeated and driven from Suntreso to Bono region. He also took part in the Denkyira war in which Denkyirahene Ntim Gyakari was defeated and beheaded by Asante at the war of Feyiase in 1701. Nana Boakye Dankwa also took part in the Akyem war in which Asantehene Osei Tutu I died at the battlefield. He also took part in the second Asante-Akyem was during Asantehene Opoku Ware I in which the Akyems were finally defeated. Nana Boakye Dankwa died after the second Akyem war and was succeeded by Nana Siaw Agyen Puduo (1730-1762).
