Vanlife Scotland - The Worst Vanlife Experience!

It’s Week 4 of our VanLife Scotland journey — and this one was supposed to be a dream. Old Man of Storr, Coral Beach, and then the Outer Hebrides. Instead… everything went wrong.

We’ve spent three months living full-time in our campervan after selling our home, and we’ve already learned that vanlife isn’t just sunsets and freedom. It’s beautiful, it’s rewarding — but it’s hard. And this week, Scotland hit us with all of it at once.

From 60mph storms shaking the van on Skye, to cancelled ferries, cabin fever, and eventually… a fuel disaster that left us stranded on the M6 and facing 18 hours of recovery trucks, rain, and uncertainty.

But in the middle of the chaos, we also had some of the most breathtaking moments of the trip:
• The Old Man of Storr appearing through the clouds after a brutal, rain-soaked climb
• Coral Beach glowing white against dark volcanic rock
• A reset run back in the Cairngorms
• Waterfall hikes in the Lake District

This lifestyle is testing us in ways we didn’t expect — and with only 4 weeks until we’re meant to head to France for a year, we don’t even know if we’ll have a van to take with us. But we’re trying to hold onto the hope that things turn around soon.
