2024 - Zanzibar & Bagamoyo, Tanzania - 26 July - 4 August

Zanzibar allowed us to step away from the truck and into a more Western world: beachside resorts, stunning white beaches, fancy restaurants, sourdough bread and a wonderful fresh food market - we even managed to find coconut milk powder!!!

We watched a lot of soccer on the beach, enjoyed playing with the street cats and wandering the back streets of Stonetown.

I left Paul for 36 hours and headed to Johannesburg - the longest time we had been apart for a very long time. I had been given my “essentials” shopping list…. It started with properly vacuum sealed coffee - which had been proving difficult to source. With a lovely lunch and a well overdue hair cut I headed back to Zanzibar to enjoy another couple of days chilling.

Paul in the meantime studied the Tanzanian football league chasing his favourite team - a useful topic later used to distract dodgy policemen. A perfect way to change the tone of a conversation.

Zanzibar was a welcome treat away from the dust and truck. Ready for our next leg, we made for the mainland again, where we headed north to the small coastal town of Bagamayo.
