New Real Madrid star Trent Alexander-Arnold’s full press conference as the former Liverpool man reveals all on his Spanish lessons, leaving his boyhood club and realising his childhood dream.

0:01 A day I’ve been waiting for a long time now. There’s still a lot of hard work to do but I’m very excited to be here.

0:50 By waiting a long time for this move, I meant a couple of weeks, not years. I grew up watching this club win three Champions Leagues in a row. I want to be a part of the success going forward. I’m looking to have a great start at the Club World Cup.

2:42 I grew up a Liverpool fan. Istanbul with Xabi Alonso. It’s great to have that communication with him. He’s a big idol of mine. It’s a dream come true to work alongside him. We haven’t formally met yet but over the next few weeks we’ll talk about everything. He’s shown how amazing he is as a manager and as a player.

4:22 Carvajal is a fantastic player. He’s won so many trophies, been a part of so many successful teams. Nothing but respect. You don’t achieve that much without a lot of talent.

6:32 Playing for Real Madrid is not something you dream of because it’s out of reach for a lot of players. 10/11 years ago I was just focusing on learning and being the best footballer I could be.

7:25 I’ve been learning Spanish for a few months. Ballon d’Or didn’t influence me on coming here at all. It’s exciting, I want to play with these kind of players. Being at Liverpool for so long and experiencing everything I did was incredible. It was always going to be emotional for me. I’ve had great conversations with the owners, they wished me so well and said I would be welcomed back at any time. Over the moon to be here, though. I’m very proud.

10:26 I just want to play. To play for Real Madrid is a fantastic honour and an achievement in itself. I need to perform and show why I deserve to play. Today is an amazing day. The work starts tomorrow.

11:12 I’ve known for a long time that if I were to ever leave Liverpool then Real Madrid would be the only club for me. Making the decision wasn’t easy. You have to make decisions and I’m very excited.

13:16 I’ve played for the biggest team in England and now the biggest team in Spain. To have that honour, there’s a lot of similarities, winning trophies, performing week in and week out. Football is football, I won trophies at Liverpool and here will be no different. We have to deliver.

18:15 I remember David Beckham playing here and that being a massive thing. Cristiano joining, the way he was welcomed was different to anything I had seen before. The amount of trophies that followed. It was a statement in my mind of how big this football club is.

19:11 I do as I’m told under the managers I play under. The two Liverpool managers asked different things of me and I did my best to take on the different roles to the best of my ability. I want to be the best version of myself. Those who don’t appreciate me, it is what it is. As long as the manager appreciates me then I’m happy with whatever.

21:11 I want to be important at every moment on the football pitch. You’ve got to think that you’re always part of the game. With and without the ball, you need to be ready. Whatever the game needs everyone needs to be willing to commit to it.

22:03 I was at Liverpool for so long and I enjoyed every single minute of it. The club gave me the opportunity to go and achieve my dreams. I thought it was the right moment for me, being the age I am. I’m mature and ready to go and be successful somewhere else.
