A late Victorian stereo graphoscope of unusually large proportions, finished in a beautiful close-grained veneer with adjustable stand, sliding card holder and a large swing-out magnifying lens. Both the card holder and stand are attractively finished with fretwork detail. The slide carrier moves backwards and forwards along the viewing platform to allow for precise focussing and stereo adjustment, and the whole device folds flat for ease of storage. It is shown here with an image of Paris and a Keystone Stereocard entitled 'Still There's no Place Like Home'. Through the magic of stereo photography - whereby two nearly identical photographs, each taken from a slightly different angle, are paired to produce to 'fool' the eyes into a three-dimensional image - the viewer gives an outstanding impression of depth.
