Haya is Life: SIO of India Launches Nationwide Campaign Against Sexual Immorality, Objectification, and Cultural Decay.

The Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) has launched a nationwide campaign titled “Haya is Life: Meaning, Morality and Tranquillity,” inaugurated today at the Press Club of India, New Delhi. The one-month campaign, running from October 12 to November 10, 2025, seeks to restore the moral consciousness and emotional balance of India’s youth by reviving Haya, the virtue of modesty, as a universal value for dignity, respect, and inner peace. Activities and discussions will take place across universities and campuses in more than 28 states.

India’s youth today stand at a moral and cultural crossroads. The imagination of an entire generation is being shaped by a media industry culture saturated with hypersexualized entertainment, distorted values, and the relentless commercialization of desire. Despite repeated government interventions and stricter OTT content guidelines, explicit and obscene material continues to flood digital platforms, advertisements, and cinema.

Recently, the Government of India ordered the blocking of 25 OTT platforms for promoting vulgar, indecent, and pornographic content. Many Platforms were found repeatedly airing obscene material in violation of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the IT Rules, 2021.

These developments come amid growing public outrage over the increasing sexual vulgarity in talk shows, online content, and celebrity podcasts, which recently even reached parliamentary discussion after a viral controversy exposed the depth of moral decline in popular media.

SIO National President Abdul Hafeez, addressing the media, said:” Entertainment that once reflected society has now begun to corrupt it. Films, web series, and reality shows glorify lust, violence, and disrespect for women reducing them to objects of visual appeal and commercial profit. The media industry, under the pretext of creativity and expression, has normalized indecency and commodified the female body for business, corroding the moral foundation of our youth.

The moral impact of this culture is now reflected in society’s mental and emotional health.* Statista (2024) reports that Indian youth now spend over six hours daily on screens, while WHO data reveals that one in seven young Indians faces serious mental health challenges. India also ranks third globally in pornography consumption, with over 70% of viewers below the age of 34.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (2024), crimes against women have risen by 25% in five years, including disturbing cases of harassment and assault within educational institutions. “These are not isolated crises,” Hafeez warned. “They are symptoms of a deeper sickness in our culture that demands reflection, restraint, and reform.”

He added, “We live in a society where vulgarity is marketed as confidence and immorality as freedom. Haya restores balance, it reminds us that dignity and discipline are the true signs of progress. A nation that loses its modesty loses its moral direction.”

General Secretary Adv. Anees Rahman remarked:“Our youth are not short of intelligence, they are short of moral clarity. Haya is a language of compassion and self-respect that protects both the soul and society. This campaign is not about setting boundaries ; but about finding balance.”

The “Haya is Life” campaign will unfold through interactive and educational programs designed to help youth rebuild inner strength and ethical awareness. These include:
•Listening Circles and Rahma Counselling sessions for emotional and moral support
• De-addiction and digital detox counselling, addressing pornography, social media, and screen addiction
• Workshops for parents and educators on guiding children through moral confusion
• Seminars and expert talks on digital ethics, pornography, and emotional resilience
• Campus exhibitions and lectures on modesty, emotional intelligence, and spiritual balance

Campaign Convenor Shujauddin Fahad emphasized that India’s cultural crisis is, at its heart, a moral crisis. “True progress cannot emerge from a society that celebrates obscenity and reduces women to commodities. A civilization that disconnects success from ethics risks losing its soul. The youth must reclaim their moral compass and rebuild meaning through conscience and compassion.”

Through “Haya is Life,” SIO envisions a nationwide moral awakening, a youth movement rooted in faith, intellect, and ethical responsibility. The campaign reminds young Indians that modesty is not weakness but strength, and that inner tranquillity begins where moral clarity returns.
