NASA is one step closer to launch humans on a mission to fly by the Moon. On Oct. 16, the Orion spacecraft, named 'Integrity' by her crew, was transported from the Launch Abort System Facility to the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. After entering the building around midnight heading into Oct. 17, the spacecraft was hoisted onto the Space Launch System rocket the next day.
The spacecraft will be home to the Artemis 2 crew for a roughly 10-day mission, which will see them loop around the Moon and head back to Earth on a free-return trajectory. That means once the translunar injection (TLI) burn is initiated while in a high Earth orbit, the mission is fully in motion.
The crew consists of NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen. Launch is scheduled for no earlier than Feb. 5, 2026, from Launch Complex 39B.
