(8 Apr 2017) ZOE SALDANA ON 'AVATAR 2': 'GREAT THINGS ARE WORTH THE WAIT'
"Avatar" star Zoe Saldana says the long-gestating sequel will be well worth the wait.
"You know great things are worth the wait. And James Cameron is known to be a perfectionist and he does it because he loves what he does and he also loves his public. He loves his fans and he wants to always deliver a great story that people just manage to keep in their hearts forever," she said.
Though "Avatar 2" had not officially been scheduled, 20th Century Fox last November dated a film from Cameron's production company for Dec. 21, 2018.
Cameron recently announced that the science-fiction epic will not be released next year.
Saldana spoke about the highly anticipated project Friday in Los Angeles while unveiling her wax figure at Madame Tussauds.
"Thank you guys! I'm so nervous I think I'm going to faint. Thank you so much for coming here! I'm beyond humbled and I just can't believe I'm here. So thank you to Madame Tussaud's for just this beautiful honor and I hope you like her," Saldana told the crowd before the curtain dropped.
The striking statue was dressed in the Versace gown Saldana wore to the 2015 Academy Awards.
"Right now I'm having like a real surreal experience and I'm quite emotional so I'm trying to keep it together," she said in an interview. "Moments like these are just dreams, I guess, that you have. And to be sort of like ... for your work to be immortalized in a wax figure is really just a humbling experience. So I'm very grateful to everybody involved. To be invited to be a part of this amazing museum and to be considered as an actor that's worthy of this it's like the best Christmas present without it being Christmas, I have to say. So I'm very happy."
Saldana's husband, Marco Perego, mother and grandmother were on hand to celebrate the event.
"I just like to look forward and be focused and not let my emotions get in the way, I guess. But it's always good. They remind me to take a pause and to enjoy the results of hard labor and sacrifices. I don't know, I'm just so happy that they're here and they're proud of me because I'm just as proud of them," she said of her family.
However the actress wasn't sure how her three young sons will react the the life-like figure.
"I don't know, you know? But I hope that they take it all in stride. So far they're being exposed in a very gradual way to what their parents do and I think that there is an artsy-fartsy side to them as well because they tend to acclimate quite quickly. So I hope they're not freaked out!" she joked.
Saldana's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is scheduled to launch May 5, 2017.
