Hi, I’m Mo.
This is part two of my Buzzword reading vlog mini series! In the first video, I see what prompts I'd already read throughout 2025. You can watch that here: • Completing the Buzzword & Buzzcover Readin...
In this vlog, I actually read for the prompts!
Every year, I look forward to the Buzzword Reading Challenge created by @BooksandLala . But I don't actually pay attention to the challenge until the end of the year. Then I do a vlog where I see what I've read and what I need to read from the challenge.
I was super excited that Kayla made a buzzword and buzzcover challenge for 2025! I had planned to follow along month by month with the cover challenge, but I fell off after about a third of the year.
Since I was reading a short story anthology, I had read some of these authors before. I mention it a lot, so I thought it would be nice to list what I've read from these authors and what I thought of them.
Rebecca Roanhorse
Falling Bodies (2023) Short story - LOVED this. Have read multiple times
The Boys from Blood River [Vampires Never Grow Old] (2020) Short Story - Really really liked this story! A stand out from this collection! Weird that it also has "never" in the title!
Brandon Hobson
The Removed (2021) Novel - My favorite book the year that I read it. Did I read this twice? Maybe?
Morgan Talty
Night of the Living Rez (2022) Interconnected short story collection - Really enjoyed this. Felt almost more like a disjointed novel. Characters that have stuck with me.
David Heska Wanbli Weiden
Winter Counts (2020) Novel - I didn't love this crime novel, but it was enjoyable. The novel was very violent and so was his short story in Never Whistle. I DNFd it.
Tommy Orange
There There (2018) Novel - Loved! I need to reread and read the prequel!
Darcie Little Badger
Elotsoe (2020) YA novel - I really liked this one! It sits with the Wayward Children Series and Felix Ever After in my mind as YA that is also for adults. And books that I wish I had as a teen!
Waubgeshig Rice
Moon of the Crusted Snow (2018) and Moon of the Turning Leaves (2023) Novels - I really enjoyed the first two books in the The WhiteSky Series. I def loved Crusted Snow more but both really good and so so sad.
Did you work on the buzzword, buzzcover, or both this year?
What prompts would you pick for 2026?
