For the final leg of our epic Zanzibar trip, we head north to Nungwi. This part of Zanzibar is extremely popular during high season and reputed to have some of the best swimming beaches not only on the island but in the world! We start off however with a sunset walk - this is when Nungwi comes to life!
Let's show you around.
Nungwi is only 4km from Kendwa. During this leg of our trip, we aimed to experience the north of the island extensively.
Kendwa's shoreline is about 3km long and is quieter than Nungwi since there are more higher end resorts on this side. This may appeal to some but we found that the true essence of Zanzibar was sincerely missed here.
We walked the entire stretch at Kendwa and finally came across the vibrancy and colour we yearned for - local artists dipping their colourful paintings in the turquoise blue waters lined along the coral rock. Why they did this still remains a mystery to us.
Nungwi Beach is a highly recommended swimming beach. Tides aren't dramatic as on the Eastern and Southern parts of the island, the water is calm and enchanting.
During high season, the area is bustling with tourism. Together with the local spirit, this makes the district of Nungwi a lively experience.
