Choukoni means square. Yes, you heard right. These paav, similar to pavbhaji paav are square in shape.
We are talking about a legacy of more than 200 years that is still preserved in several old bakeries in Vengurla. Just like the unique shapes, these paav also differ in taste. They contain no salt and no yeast is used for fermentation as they are used to make ordinary bread or paav.
Not a single meal in Vengurla and the surrounding area is complete without paav. Although it's chicken or fish curry paav is a must, even with Vada-paav.
