Medtner Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor Op. 50 - Nikolai Demidenko Live 1990 Belfast (SCORE)

A phenomenal recording of Medtner’s second piano concerto, one of the hardest in piano repertoire. Both insanely difficult musical and technical difficulties which push the limits of the pianist. Medtner is a notoriously difficult composer to play but his music, likewise his concertos, and underrated and have luscious melodies and are very rewarding to play. This is the first Medtner score video on this channel.

My then favourite recording of this piece was Tozer, but after discovering Demidenko’s underrated performance, which is LIVE and quite modern (1990), this absolutely tops that. His playing is just much MORE powerful (as I say on every recording on this channel), a more profound bass, dynamics and voicing, and passion. It sounds more refined than Tozer and Hamelin, and its great to hear many think this is the greatest interpretation.
The recording also has great sound quality.

Sheet music directly from IMSLP (took screenshots and then edited each one removing other bars and adding white so its cleaner and higher quality)
Used Adobe premiere rush to add the audio and score and then editing the score to fit. The end result was very good, however, the page turns lag behind compared to the original project in rush by just a few hundred milliseconds, so not every page turn is perfect yet it is an improvement from earlier videos.
