This old fashioned chocolate chip cookie recipe comes from the Better Homes and Garden Cookbook which is from 1950.
½ cup shortening
1 TSP vanilla
½ cup sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
1 well beaten egg
1 ½ cups flour
½ TSP salt
½ TSP soda
1 7 to 8 ounce package semisweet chocolate, chopped (or you can use chocolate chips!)
½ cup chopped walnuts
Preheat oven to 375F. Cream shortening, sugars, and vanilla thoroughly. Add egg and beat well. Add sifted flour, soda, and salt and mix well. Add walnuts and chocolate chips and mix well. Drop from teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet and bake for about 12 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen cookies. Enjoy!
