Moving along on the 1966 Ford F100 restoration project, the chassis is starting to get put back together again, starting with the restored & improved original twin i-beam front suspension. Hear why Kristin & Ethan decided to keep it (mostly) stock and how they’re making it Extra Good.

Did you keep or change the twin I-beam front suspension on your Ford truck build? Leave a comment and let us know!

Twin I-Beam front suspension was a landmark in Ford engineering – being used on its F100 trucks from 1965 all the way up to 1984 (and even up to 2016 in 2WD F-250s and F-350s!) Providing trucks with a much smoother ride, it wasn’t the first independent front suspension to the market, but it is known for its ruggedness over the control-arm options of the ‘60s. So when it came to choosing a front suspension set-up for our 1966 Ford F100 restoration build, while there are pros and cons of twin I-beam front suspension, we opted to sidestep a whole lot of cost and fabrication and simply restore the pickup’s original stock front suspension.

The route we took involved a little more than cleaning up and replacing worn parts however, since we want this shop truck to be Extra Good when we’re done with it! Ethan goes over the stock components coming off a 50+ year old truck and what goes wrong with them—then we dive into the new parts (listed below) they used to make this build Extra Good.

The parts include:
OE Stock Spindle Wheel Kit from Classic Performance Products (CPP): https://www.classicperform.com/Store/...
Includes spindles, 12” rotors, dual-piston calipers, king pins, etc.
750-lbs/in rate coilover springs
1” Addco sway bar
Bilstein shocks
Urethane bushings
I-beam components powdercoated at Crosslink Powder Coating in Fort Worth, Texas
Wheels: U.S. Wheel 69 Series Rad Rod
Tires: Nitto Terra Grappler G2 in 265/70/R17: https://www.nittotire.com/light-truck...
