This video breaks down the different steps required to determine the flexural capacity of a prestressed I-girder section composite with a reinforced concrete deck. The formulation assumes rectangular section behaviour, i.e. the plastic neutral axis (PNA) is assumed to be present within the concrete deck.
The methodology is based on a step-by-step approach considering at the stress and strain states of the cross section and subsequently moving to the forces applied on the cross section. Simple statics is then used to determine the depth of the PNA and the flexural capacity of the composite cross-section assuming rectangular section behaviour.
