Chapter :9
Tangents and Secants to a Circle.
Exercise: 9.2(5) sum..
Construction Steps:
1. Draw a circle with radius 6 cm. OA=6 cm
2. Mark a point outside the circle, let it be p.
the distance from OP is 10 cm.
3. Take perpendicular bisectors from the line segment OP. Join them..
4. OM and MP is same , take OM as radius draw circle.
5. Therefore this circle meets at a point A1 and B1, draw a tangent from PA1 and PB1. Join OA1 and OB1(Perpendiculars)
6. PA1 and PB1 are required Tangents.
Verification Using Pythagoras Theorem:
From the triangles OPA1
OP^2 = OA1^2 + A1P^2
10(10) = 6(6)+ A1P^2
simplify: A1P = 8 cms
Similarly other triangle OB1P also results same
