VLDC1 - "Super Wario Blah" by Mr.L [51st place]

"Super Wario Blah" by Mr.L, a level created for SMW Central's first Vanilla Level Design Contest in 2007.

Yeah.. Sorry to be blunt here, but I'm not really surprised that this level earned last-place. Just about everything went wrong that could have gone wrong: eye-searing palettes, graphical glitches everywhere, less than five Yoshi Coins, long stretches of water that require you to spam the "swim" button and exhaust your fingers, irritating dead-ends, poorly chosen music tracks that don't fit the area they play in, one secret exit that doesn't seem to be possible to obtain without the use of obscure glitches, and another that I showcase in this video that I was only able to find by cheating and looking through Lunar Magic.

Nothing here really works, and I don't think there's anything salvageable if the level were to be improved upon. I thought the section with Yoshi had some potential, since I always appreciate puzzle-like segments where you have to feed Yoshi with enough enemies to make him grow, but Yoshi isn't well-utilized ultimately.

This was made by a user who registered for the contest and then disappeared off the face of the site, so I'll provide the benefit of the doubt here and assume that this was just the product of an overzealous newbie without too much interest in testing their work.

CREATIVITY: 6 - Nothing really thrilling in it.
DIFFICULTY: 4 - The level seemed almost devoid of enemies.
APPEAL: 3 - Palettes were eye searing, and what was up with that second part?
FUNCTIONALITY: 5.5 - While it played without error, there were a TON of graphical glitches
FUN: 5 - Nah. Didn't quite do it for me.

SNN's SYNOPSIS: This had so much potential to be better. It actually looked alright at
first glance, but playing through it proved otherwise. The second part was just a mess,
and there was next to no effort put into fixing the graphical glitches.
