Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: Armenians burn homes before territory turned over to Azerbaijan

Armenians burned their homes in the village of Charektar, in the Kalbajar district of the Nagorno-Karabakh region, on Saturday ahead of a handover territory to Azerbaijan under a Russia-brokered peace deal.

The district is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, but has been controlled by ethnic Armenians since a war over the Nagorno-Karabakh region in the 1990s. On Sunday, it's expected the Azeris will return and take back control of the area.

Some of the villagers said they were burning their homes as they had no desire to leave anything useful for the Azeris.
