35mm on a twin lens reflex? Really?
Yes! That's right! Yashica 44 (aka Baby Yashica) is a 127 format camera with 4cm by 4cm frame hence the name Yashica 44. The unavailability on the 127 film in the market pushes the creatives to think ways on how to utilize this cute baby, by fitting a 35mm film canister into the film chamber just by removing some screws and adding some washer spacers. You know have the ability to take 35mm photos using a TLR!
The Yashica 44 is smaller that its big brother Yashica Mat 124 which I also have a vlog. The 127 film is also smaller compared to 120 film. The problem with this camera is that most film companies discontinued manufacturing 127film so the only option is to use a 35mm film, which is very interesting! A roll of regular 36 shot film can take 25 - 30 frames in Yashica 44 depending on how you wind the crank. There are tutorials in youtube and in Google but experience will tell how to do it properly.
The images will be exposed even on the sprocket holes, but unfortunately, I had bad results in scanning my own film at home using Lomography Digitaliza 35mm mask. So I have to scan it using the Epson 35mm scanning mask and removing the sprocket holes. Developing and scanning film would a separate topic for a future vlog!
I intentionally overexpose the film by only 1 stop, but since 35mm film does not have a backing paper unlike 120 and 127 film, the shiny pressure plate might have affected the overall exposure by adding 1 stop at default. But I still got great results though! Lomography CN100 really handles +2 stops overexposure well.
Comment down below you thoughts on using 35mm film in a different body!
