Adolph L. Reed, Jr., Professor of Political Science, University of Pennsylvania was the 2009-2010 Institute for the Humanities Visiting Fellow. A scholar of African-American politics and intellectual history, he is the author of numerous books, including The Jesse Jackson Phenomenon: the Crisis of Purpose in Afro-American Politics (1986), Stirrings in the Jug: Black Politics in the Post-Segregation Era (1999), and Class Notes: Posing as Politics and Other Thoughts on the American Scene (2000). He has worked on several projects, including "Making Sense of Race," that explore the status of race as a biological category; and "When Compromises Come Home to Roost: The American Left's Retreat from Class Struggle and the Rise of Neoliberalism."
Adolph L. Reed, Jr. was in residence at UIC from March 1-5, 2010, offering a seminar and a public lecture.
