Institute for Continued Learning - The UN and Climate without the US participation 10-23-25

"As we near United Nations Day (24 October), we will examine the UN's critical efforts regarding climate change. The United States is withdrawing and withholding its Climate Change financial support, science and diplomacy from the international planning and actions coordinated by the United Nations. The United Nations continues to pursue collaborative climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies on a global level due to the preponderance of nations sense of urgency and the consensus that the scientific evidence identifies that substantive global scale mitigation is called for now. The LWV has identified and prioritized active participation and promotion of collective action regarding climate change. Dr. Tokmakian will share her insight into how the UN is proceeding in light of these fiscal and diplomatic circumstances. She will discuss her role and identify Climate Change priorities at the global level. In addition she will identify what role we can play to set Climate Change mitigation as a current priority for our nation and species.

The National League of Women Voters (LWV) holds a permanent observer seat on the United Nations (UN) Conference of Parties (COP) regarding global warming and climate change mitigation. Dr. Robin Tomakian is the LWV representative in that role."
