These vocal exercises — po tu la be da — come from the classical singing tradition, often rooted in old Italian vocalises used by teachers in the Mediterranean and European classical schools. In my mother’s old singing book (its pages yellowed and fragile), I discovered these syllables as gentle, flexible tools to warm up and relax the voice.
A helpful tip: try to sing them as relaxed as possible, with a clear voice (no unnecessary airiness), and then gradually explore your own tone color. The idea is to free your voice, not to force it.
