God's Unfaithful Wives

The word of the Lord came down, to Ezekiel one day
A tale of two sisters, in Egypt's shadowed way
Oholah the elder, Samaria her name
Oholibah her sibling, Jerusalem's flame
They played the whore when young, in the land of the Nile
Defiled by their lovers, in lust's wicked guile

Lusting for foreigners, beneath idolatrous skies
But the Lord sees the betrayal, the covenant broken wide
In the parable of passion, where faithfulness has died

Oholah turned to Assyria, with warriors strong and bold
She doted on their captains, in garments fine as gold
She poured out her favors, on idols carved of stone
Forgot the God who saved her, left Him there alone
So He gave her to her lovers, they stripped her bare and plain
Her children were taken captive, in judgment's fiery pain

She sent for painted portraits, indulged without remorse
Defiled by Babylon's princes, in chambers deep and dark
She multiplied her harlotry, in sins perverse and stark

The Lord declared His fury, for the blood upon their hands
The altars to false deities, across His holy lands
He'd bring their lovers against them, to judge and to expose
The nakedness of wickedness, where no repentance grows
Yet woven with the anger, a call to turn from shame
To seek the faithful Husband, who bears the Sacred Name
