France has no shortage of beautiful small towns and villages. Take, for example, Annecy, often called the “Venice of Savoy,” or Bayeux in the north, where 11th-century tapestries bear the same name. Or the island of Porquerolles on the Cote d'Azur: there are no cars at all! Surprisingly, when the French were asked to vote for their favorite village in 2017, these iconic towns did not take pride of place on the list. The most voted city was an amazing city that is rarely seen on tourist routes. This is Kaysersberg in Alsace, a tiny village in northeastern France.

French newspaper Le Figaro notes that winning the competition is a “golden opportunity” for the village. The program "France's Favorite Village", organized by France 2, began voting in 2012. Previous winners of the competition immediately felt all the benefits. Tourists came here and the economy began to grow. Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, which won the competition in 2012, now receives almost 200,000 tourists a year - 20% more than before the vote - while visits to 2016 winner Rochefort-en-Terre increased from 600,000 to 1,000,000 people per year.

Kaysersberg is one of the most colorful villages in Alsace and throughout France, boasting an amazing history inextricably linked with the royal court, and its architecture, more precisely, half-timbered houses of the Renaissance. They are the reason why the village has turned into a special tourist attraction, where those who dream of getting into a fairy tale or touching the origins flock.
The extremely popular province of Alsace, located in the eastern part of France, attracts tourists with its ancient architectural monuments, ancient trading cities and, of course, wines. Vineyards are an integral part of its landscapes. You drive along the roads and it seems like vines are everywhere.
