Did you fail your competency test?
Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya has wrapped up two days of explosive testimony before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee.
Before his appearance, Sibiya was heavily criticized for dodging questions in Parliament and accused of insubordination after allegedly defying top police leadership. But this week, he came out swinging — defending himself and setting the record straight.
One of the most-watched clips online came when he was directly asked whether he failed his competency test, a moment that sparked intense public debate.
In his testimony, Sibiya also said:
“KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi lied to the country during his July 6 press conference.”
He described how Mkhwanazi had called him “boss” just two days earlier and accused him of twisting facts to damage his reputation.
Sibiya also addressed his alleged links to Brown “Mogotsi” and Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, denying any wrongdoing and insisting their meetings were professional. On the so-called ‘Big 5 cartel,’ he said an intelligence report had found it didn’t exist — and that his name was being used to shift blame for the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
He further denied responsibility for the 121 case dockets that ended up in Pretoria, saying they were sent there only after Mkhwanazi refused to accept them in KwaZulu-Natal.
Watch his full two-day testimony here — and decide for yourself.
