What SPF Numbers Don't Tell You

Confused by SPF numbers? You’re not alone.
SPF primarily tells you how well a product blocks UVB rays—the ones that cause sunburn. But it says almost nothing about UVA rays, which go deeper, cause skin aging and also increase your risk of melanoma.
It’s easy to assume a higher SPF gives you significantly more protection. But in reality?
☀️ SPF 30 blocks ~97% UVB rays
☀️ SPF 50 blocks ~98% UVB rays
☀️ SPF 100 blocks ~99% UVB rays
And high SPF can give people a false sense of security—so they stay in the sun too long, forget to reapply and end up less protected overall.
Your best bet?
✅ Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen
✅ Stick to SPF 30–50
✅ Reapply every 2 hours
