One of my absolute favorite spring-time walks is along the Tokyo side of the Tamagawa River from Tamagawa Station to Futako-Tamagawa Station. The total walk is around 5km so it's also a nice hike with stops for photography. The banks of the river are covered in bright yellow rape flowers while huge pink and white cherry trees line the path along the Tama Green Space park. In between are blue and white wild flowers, making the whole route ablaze with color.
From Tamagawa Station, I took a slight detour up to Tamagawadai Park which was once a major area for kofun burial mounds constructed during the 3rd to 7th Century AD. There is a small but interesting museum with excavated artifacts and displays highlighting the period. From there you can walk down to the river bank and hike all the way to the next station (with a Starbucks kind of half-way!) The cherry blossoms along the path are spectacular with open spaces good for a hanami picnic, or just relax surrounded by all the spring colors. Hope you enjoy!
