Saint Katharine Drexel Mission Center and Shrine "Urban Stealth Camp"

On this episode we Stealth Camp at the Saint Katharine Drexel Mission Center and do a little exploring.
I hope folks watching this can see how much of a beautiful place this was and still is.
It was a very somber experience making this video and I'm glad I could get out and record such a spectacular place before it's just a memory.
During filming it was my intention to be as respectful as possible while on the grounds, I hope I achieved that goal .

ST. KATHERINE DREXEL
Katharine Drexel born November 26, 1858 was an American Catholic heiress, philanthropist, religious sister, and educator. Born into tremendous wealth as part of the Drexel family, she gave up her life of privilege to found the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in 1891, a religious order in which she dedicated her life serving the needs of African Americans and Native Americans

Saint Katharine Drexel was Canonized on October 1, 2000.
Saint Katharine is the second American-born person ever to be canonized.

St Katherine Drexel passed away at 96 years of age on– March 3, 1955



I'll give a brief history of the grounds;

HISTORY
The complex was built in 1892, and consists of three contributing buildings. They are built in the Spanish-French Mission style. The main building is the convent, which has an attached chapel and bell tower. The other contributing buildings are the utility building and 2+1⁄2-story laundry building.
The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The religious order founded by St. Katharine Drexel in Philadelphia announced in 2016 it is selling its two largest properties, including the 44-acre estate in Bucks County that contains the Motherhouse and shrine honoring the order's founder.

The Drexel shrine, however, was decommissioned and on August 2, 2018, Saint Katharine Drexel’s sacred remains were translated from the Motherhouse of the Community she founded, the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, to the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul in Center City Philadelphia



PURCHASE

The property is zoned for institutional uses, which means a memorial cemetery or an educational, academic, religious, outdoor recreational or privately-operated community institution would be allowed on the property,

Havertown-based Aquinas Realty Partners intends to build an over-55 residential community on the property.

Mercedes hall will be demolished as well as the school building and smaller buildings
The cemetery for the sisters on the former site of the Drexel shrine will remain on the grounds as the site is redeveloped.
