Spoiler: The RV is over on its GVWR by 1436 pounds. That’s not good and the DOT would not like that. Good thing is that the truck can still handle it and it’s not a contributing factor to the wheel failure. Still we don’t want to take any chances. It’s going to be a significant challenge to get that weight down as we already travel very light. We don’t have any solid ideas as to where the additional weight is coming from but we’ll find it. Best we can tell is that all those little things add up.
In this update video, I address a mistake I made in my previous video regarding the model of wheels on our RV. I incorrectly identified them as the Tiger model, but they are actually the Harrier model. I want to ensure my audience has the most accurate information and demonstrate my commitment to transparency.
Additionally, I take this opportunity to dive deep into the research I conducted to ensure our RV and truck are not overloaded. I used a CAT scale to weigh our setup and calculated the payload capacities, ratings for wheels, tires, and axles. I’ll show you my detailed spreadsheet and explain the math behind it all. Join me for a geeky, analytical look at how to ensure your RV setup is safe and within limits.
I go pretty fast in this video so if you miss something or something is not clear, please ask your questions in the comments.
If you are commenting just in general, feel free to express your opinion, but I would request that if you are presenting information you wish others to accept as fact, please cite your sources so that others may do their own research. There is already a lot of misinformation around the topic, and speculation, guesses, and wishful thinking are generally not helpful. I'm guilty of it myself, so I'm not pointing fingers or playing expert or tow police here. And please always be kind in your comments and replies; tone and demeanor are often not well conveyed in online discussions, emails and text, and are therefore often misinterpreted or misunderstood.
