On June 15, 2011, the Vancouver Canucks Hockey team lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals to the Boston Bruins 4-0. There were over 100,000 people on the streets that day to watch the game. When the Canucks lost, all hell broke loose as people began to burn cars and fight with themselves and the police. Then the rioting and looting began, repeating the terrible events of 1994.
Skytrain service was also very limited as passengers were only allowed to leave downtown initially, and trains were not permitted to stop at Granville Station due to rioting, looting, and fires at the nearby Hudson Bay Company store.
Only some of the Blue Buses serving West Vancouver ran that night. The public was directed to leave downtown on foot. This was difficult initially as all bridges were blocked by police.
Police did not allow vehicles, taxis, or buses to enter the downtown core. People had to catch a cab or bus from Main Street Station.
