How Scientists Date the Earth

Sometimes that we know the date of the earth and the ancient structures and fossils buried in the ground is almost taken for granted. However in the grand scheme of things a reliable way to date the earth wasn't discovered until fairly recently but also the that things are dated as actually quite complex.
