The average adult human being breathes 12-16 breaths/minute. When we breathe 12-16 breaths/min we fail to challenge our mitochondria. They get lazy and decrease efficiency, when we chronically over breathe.
When we choose to breathe less, CO2 levels rise and mitochondria begin to adapt. This is healthy stress. When we breathe less/minute periodically, our mitochondria respond by multiplying and increase their efficiency. The benefits are increased energy levels, quicker recovery time post exertion, and you can tell others you have plenty of efficient mitochondria.
