I Tried Flipping My Submarine Dome… Here’s What Went Wrong

In this video, I continue my DIY submarine build by fabricating a dome endcap using twelve welded gores. Dome shapes are used in pressure vessels and submarines because they distribute load efficiently — but working with curved steel introduces challenges you don’t always see on paper.
After tack welding the gores and attaching lifting points, I attempted to hook and flip the dome so I could continue work. As the dome passed its balance point, the center of gravity shifted, and the flip didn’t go as planned. This wasn’t a weld failure — it was a rigging and balance lesson.
This project is about learning through real-world fabrication: welding, geometry, weight distribution, and understanding how structures behave when you actually move them. The dome is not finished yet — there will be a future video where I continue the build.
