PROJECT BRIEF (please read through)

The MMIA Rehabilitation and Expansion Project is a major N712.26 billion upgrade of Nigeria's Murtala Muhammed International Airport, approved in July 2025, to transform it into a world-class aviation hub, involving a full rebuild of Terminal 1, expansion of Terminal 2, new road networks, and connecting infrastructure like skywalks, contracted to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to modernize facilities, reduce congestion, and improve passenger experience, aiming to establish Lagos as a key West African regional gateway.

Key Aspects of the Project:
• Terminal 1 Overhaul: A complete modernization, stripping the structure to its frame and rebuilding with new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to meet global standards.
• Terminal 2 Expansion: Extending boarding bridges and the apron to handle more wide-body aircraft.
• New Infrastructure: Development of efficient access roads, bridges, and a skywalk connecting the car park to Terminal 2, plus a new building to link Terminals 1 and 2 for unified operations.
• Supporting Works: Includes a 10.6km perimeter fence, operational roads, CCTV, and solar-powered lighting.
• Contractor: China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
• Funding: Financed through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund.
• Timeline: A projected completion within 22 months.
Goals:
• Alleviate congestion and enhance passenger flow.
• Elevate MMIA to a leading regional aviation hub for West Africa.
• Improve the airport's first impression for investors, visitors, and diplomats.
• Construction is underway, with visible progress on foundations for new structures like bridges.
• Temporary facilities are being provided to ensure passenger comfort during the works.
