1998 WIMBORNE JUNE 7th GRASSTRACK

A superb meeting from the Wimborne Club, held at their Uddens venue. As you would expect, the entry for the 500cc Sidecars was right out the top draw, as was the racing. Lionel Cox & Grace Hagan looked to be in tremendous form, but so did a whole lot of other crews, including Malcolm Goodwin/Gary Rockall, Andy Hopkins/Lee Woodhams, Chris Salisbury/Gary Hughes, Keith Drury/Richard Webb, Keith Richards/Lawrence Matthews, Gary Lloyd/Dave Higgins, Shaun Chick/Guy Mitchell, Brian Canning/Ronnie Steward, Mike Read/Mark Thorpe, Rob Wright/Rob Wells. and Ricky Neale/Clinton Lee. So who would you like to pick out of all these in form crews?
Whilst in the 500cc Solo's young Jason Bunyan spent the day trying to make up ground after not being able to make good starts. Great viewing for the spectators, but not so great for Jason himself, and with Tony Atkin, Chris Phillips, Malcolm Simmons, and Mark Giles also going great guns, Bunyan would certainly have his work cut out coming from off the pace.
Some awesome racing in the 1000cc RH Sidecars with Ivor Matthews & Symon Wall looking to possibly be the favourite's at the start of the meeting, but this was nothing, if competitive, with Dave Steer/Rob Szarek, Mark Edwards/Nick Walters, Russell & Graeme Ing, and now going as well as ever, John Hiscock with Jason Gill in the chair, but the list just goes on and on. Richard Thomas/Kevin Woodley, Kenny Hammill/John Richards and Shaun Conway-Baker/Shaun Woodley, all up from Cornwall for this very tough meeting. Then there's Duncan Tolhurst/Will Jones from Kent. It's almost a "Pin job" picking the top 6 for the final, let alone the winning crew. Some absolutely fantastic racing through the heats, with one very dramatic and spectacular spill for a couple of these crews.
